프레데릭 레이튼 경은 당시 영국을 대표하는 화가이자 조각가였고 라파엘 전파를 이어가는 화가였다. 지금은 그 이름이 거의 잊혀졌지만 살아있을 당시만 해도 미켈란젤로와 비교될 만큼 모든 면에서 뛰어난 화가였고, 그의 작품 플레이밍 준에 등장하는 주인공 또한 당시 영국 최고의 배우 도로시 딘 (Dorothy Dene)이었다. 많은 예술가와 모델들이 그러했듯, 두 사람 역시 사랑에 빠졌었다는 이야기가 있는데 그림을 보고 있다 보면 저토록 아름다운 여인에게, 또 자신을 저토록 아름답게 담아내 준 화가에게, 서로가 빠져들만도 하지 않았을까. 달콤한 잠에 빠진 여인의 이름이 'June'인 것은 실제로 그림이 6월의 싱그러운 피어남을 표현한 이유도 있겠지만 당시 신화에 영감을 많이 받았던 작가가 로마 신화에 나오는 여신들의 대장 '주노'를 의미하는 것은 아닐까? 소파 위로 흘러내리는 숄과 그 위로 'flaming'이라는 단어랑 너무 어울리는 붉은 주황색 원피스. 그 주름주름 아래로 비치는 나신을 따라 시선을 올리면 너무도 평화롭게 잠들어있는 긴머리의 아가씨 늦은 오후의 낮잠이라고 생각되지만, 그림 오른쪽의 독초를 보면 '죽음'이라는 이미지가 읽혀지기도 한다. '마치 죽은 듯이 잠들다'라는 표현이 딱 맞는 것이겠지요. 실제로 이 그림을 보다보면 뭔가 적막하거나 무서운 죽음의 느낌보다는 한없이 평화로운 영원한 잠에 빠져드는 느낌이 들기도 하지요. 그림은 때로는 많은 말이 필요 없는 것 같아요. 조용히 바라보는 것 만으로 부드럽고 평안해지는 치유의 힘을 가만히 느껴보셨으면...

Diamond revealed the inspiration for "Sweet Caroline" was President John F. Kennedy's daughter, Caroline Kennedy, who was eleven years old at the time. Diamond sang the song to her at her 50th birthday celebration in 2007. The song reached #4 on the USA Billboard chart and eventually went platinum for sales of one million singles. The song reached #8 on the UK charts. ABOUT the song, Longfellow Serenade: "Longfellow Serenade" is the title of a 1974 song by the American singer-songwriter Neil Diamond. This song spent two weeks at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in November. The song became Diamond' second number-one hit on the Billboard Easy Listening chart, following his 1972 single, "Song Sung Blue". Diamond said, "occasionally I like using a particular lyrical style which, in this case, lent itself naturally to telling the story of a guy who woos his woman with poetry." The title of the song is a reference to the 19th century American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
