한해가 마지막 가는 12월 31일
문득 Robert Frost 의 "어느 눈오는 저녁 숲가에 서서"
라는 시가 떠 올랐습니다.
John F Knnedy 대통령의 취임식 파티에서 시인이 몸소
낭독하였다는 유명한 일화가 있어 그를 미국을 대표하는
미국의 계관시인 Poet Laureate of US 라 한다지요
William Wordsworth 를 영국의 계관시인이라 일컷듯이
New Frontier 정책을 뿌리내린 그는 지금 가고 없지만
그의 정신을 기리는 영원의 불길은 타오르고 있습니다.
그런데 왜 인류의 평화는 정착되지 못하고 세계의 여러
곳에서 기아와 질병, 전쟁과 태러가 난무합니까, 왜!?
그래서, 묵은해를 씻어보내고 새 해를 맞이하면서
세계만방에 평화와 사랑과 행복이 찾아올 것을
기원하면서 다시 여행의 출발점에 왔습니다.
저의 소망과 깊은기도가 여행자 가족 여러분에게
마음을 밝혀주는 따뜻한 선물이 되기를 바랍니다.

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
이 숲이 누구의 숲인지 내 알듯 하이
그의 집은 마을에 있어
내가 여기 서 있음을 알지 못하리라.
그의 숲이 눈으로 쌓이는걸 지켜보느라
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
나의 어린 말은 이상하게 생각하리
인가도 하나 가까이 없는 곳에
일년중 가장 어두운 저녁에
얼어붙은 호수와 숲 사이에 멈춤을
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
그는 마구에 달린 방울을 울린다
무슨 착오라도 있지않느냐고 묻듯이
그밖에 들리는 소리라고는 단지
미풍에 솜털같은 눈송이가 스치는 소리일뿐
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,

숲은 아름답고 깊고 그윽하여라
그러나 나는 지킬 약속이 있어
